They say the best days to fish are "yesterday & tomorrow". We proved this. With reports of monster stripers being caught all day on Monday, we all
played hooky and went fishing. The weather was great, but the fishing was tough. We started out working a pair of draggers just east of Debbs. After 30 minutes of frutless fishing we
moved on eastward. A little hunting and we found ourselves off the pink hotel with the bunker schools we were looking for. We snagged a good amount of bunker
but had no fish. We worked 3 schools with no action then at noon decided to go west to riis park and try some clams. We found a dragger and drifted some clam and almost
immediately hooked up to a 27" schoolie. A short while later and we had another. Then 2 dropped fish and the dragger left. We anchored and chummed without even a skate. 2 hours later we decided on a final plan.
We trolled all the way back to the inlet without a touch on either the white bunker spoon nor the umbrella rig. We picked up a few choppers in the inlet before returning to the dock.
