We left a little late and headed east from debbs. We saw to clammers working just east of the inlet but past experience and a bit of watching
the few boats working them proved there were no bass to be had (besides, our clam was still frozen!) So with wire in tow we continued Eastward.
After 30 minutes we picked up a small bass on an umbrella rig just before the pink hotel in around 30 foot of water. Soon we were into heavy
bluefish. Small and hungry. Many of the blues we brought in were missing body parts as their brothers were chowing down on the unfortunate guys
we hooked. Afterward 6 to 8 fish like this we decided to have some C&R fun jiggin on light tackle. We boated over 25 blues in a short while using
mostly metal lures such as crippled herring. Afterwards we decided to try drifting the area with some once frozen bunker chunked. Bob had a nice
runoff but lost him as a fumble allowed his line to get slack. 2 drifts & then we decide for plan B. Fluke. Inside seems to be the best bet so we
tried just west of the AB bridge and found the motherload of short fish. No, these fish would have to grow to be short. They were around 8 inches
and there were thousands of them! We shot inside to duck point and managed a few more fish slightly larger. Still, after over 40 fluke, not one
keeper. After our 4th drift we decided to call it a day. The good news? No fish to clean!
