You could tell Dom was with us. A 7:30 shove-off turned to 7:45. Reports for stripers were encouraging but we decided to be prepared
for an alternate plan, fluke. Actually, the idea was to try the old Riis Park fluking grounds to see if this fishery recovered (it used
to be phenomenal!) Well, on our way we heard from a friend (Brandon) that 3 hours of soaking clams produced no action. So after some exploring
further east, we went straight to fluking. The wind was blowing good and due to the moon, the current was "cranking". To avoid using 10 ounce
sinkers, we tried to stay close to the beach. We fished mostly in 20 foot depths and the fish were very cooperative. However, no keepers.
We shot over to the jetty at breezy point around 1:00 and found people there fluking. A few drifts and a few lost rigs later we went back to Riis.
On our way home we found a few birds working in the inlet. We wanted to have some fun with what we thought were probably tailor blues, 3 casts
later Dom had a bass in the boat. Shortly afterwards I landed one then Dom another. 4pm we headed in. The winds calmed down as the day went
on but the sun went in and it was downright COLD!
