I never thought I'd say this, but the weather was too nice! No drift at all and all the fish seemed skittish. Still it was an OK day. We started out with a magnificent whale sighting! It appeared to be a humpback just outside of Debbs. 5 times we saw it surface but with todays slow to power-up digital cameras, we got no pictures. Still it was a great rush. From that area we threw a few casts and put around 30 snapper bluefish in the livewell. Afterwards we headed west & from behind a dragger located in 55 feet of water off the Rockaways we managed what seemed to be the only bass taken. Bob caught it, it was only 29" but it had a tag in it. It turned out that this was a USFWS tag surgically implanted in the Chesapeake bay. We are still waiting for more details. With such slow striper action and no wind we decided to take our clams to the AB reef. Once there we found pockets of sea bass and the other usual species. Although we caught around 50 sea bass (& as many other species) only a few had any size to them. Afterwards we made our way to the inlet and tried an experimental spot on the north west side of the inlet. In 30 minutes we had around 20 sand sharks and 40 sea robins.
